TIMS have now returned to our previous staffing levels.
Orthopaedic surgeons in both Gateshead and Newcastle have resumed operations and TIMS will be assessing all post-operative patients and providing the support they will need to manage their treatment programmes.
To minimise risk we continue to manage most of our patients using both telephone and now video consultations. We are using innovative technology to support our patients at this time and are planning virtual group consultations and online exercise groups.
Face to face appointments will only be offered following a telephone / video assessment if the clinician feels that you need additional support. All face to face appointments will follow hospitals guidelines on pre-appointment screening and your clinician will be wearing full personal protective equipment.
If you are a current TIMS patient who has been self-managing during lockdown and you are still having problems please self-refer by clicking on the self-referral tool at the bottom of each self-care section. This is to ensure that you update us about any changes in your condition or health during the pandemic period.

During these difficult times we are working to support musculoskeletal health by providing a helpline for patients and stakeholders.
You can contact the TIMS Helpline for advice, information and support on musculoskeletal pain if you are:
- 16 and older and registered with a Gateshead or Newcastle GP practice.
- A clinical stakeholder working in primary or secondary care in Newcastle and Gateshead CCG.
The Helpline can provide you with:
- Quick key information, advice and support on self-management
- Referral advice to TIMS or other providers
- Signposting to community and online resources
The helpline cannot provide you with:
- Clinical assessment
- Booking or managing TIMS appointments
- Complaints management
