About Tyneside Integrated Musculoskeletal Services
Aches and pains can be a normal part of life but can prevent you from carrying out your usual day-to-day activities. The good news is that most of the conditions that cause these aches and pains can be easily treated by you in your own home. Our aim is to help support you to get the right care, in the right place, first time, by providing advice and information from our dedicated team.
Your TIMS appointment during Coronavirus.
As we move into this latest phase of the Covid pandemic the TIMS service is experiencing a notable surge in referrals. We have received over 3,500 referrals per month over the last couple of months, a rate higher than at any other point including pre-pandemic.
The capacity of our clinical facilities has been reduced as a result of continuing COVID infection control measures and is affecting our ability to manage the volume of referrals in a timely manner.
Orthopaedic surgeons in both Gateshead and Newcastle have resumed operations but with reduced capacity. TIMS will be assessing all post-operative patients and providing the support they will need to manage their treatment programmes.
We continue to triage cases to ensure urgent & post-op care is prioritised and are continuing to use innovation and technology to support self-management for non-urgent care until we are able to return to our previous response and waiting times.
To minimise risk we continue to offer a blended approach of both telephone, video and face to face consultations based on clinical need and patient preference.
All face to face appointments will follow hospitals guidelines on pre-appointment screening and your clinician will be wearing full personal protective equipment.
If you are not a current TIMS patient please have a look at the self-care guidance on the website before considering whether to refer yourself. To make a self-referral, click on the self-referral tool at the bottom of each self-care section.
